The offroad battle RFC Global Series (RFCGS)
RFC TIGER TRAIL 2021
ROAR OF THE TIGER!
(Not only famed for Land of the Siberian Tiger but also for producing Top Guns 4x4 teams from Russias far eastern region and the Tallest RFC racer!)
Land of Siberian Tiger
It was a Roaring Finish at RFC Tiger Trail 2021 held during the hot summer month of August at Bolshoy Kamen, 106km from Vladivostok at Russia Far East province of Primorye. You might be mistaken the roar to come from Panthera Tigris Tigris aka Siberian or Amur Tiger, the biggest of the Big Cat species in the world in which this region is famed for.
Land of RFC Champions
However, apart from these majestic cats that command great respect, the region is also famous for producing top 4x4 racing teams, among them are Team 105 (Lyubarenko Valery/Katkov Andrey), the current champion of RFC Grand Final (RFCGF) and also top ranking in RFC Russia (RFCRU) championship. The other is Team 104 (Kulbak Roman/Dyuzhev Mikhail), the 3-time champion of RFCGF.
At the starting line on D-Day, the other 4x4 contenders came from the eastern regions like Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, Sakhalin and Irkutsk region (Baikal). All were keen to test themselves and also to see how they are rated against the famous Teams 105 and 104.
Roar of Mean Machines
Thus the roar from RFC Tiger Trail comes from the mean 4x4 machines from the top drivers and co-drivers vying for attention and status in the test of supremacy in off-road racing a la RFC format.
Seasoned Organizing Committee
Heading the organizing committee of RFC Tiger Trial 2021 was Evgenii Kovalenko, the President of RFCRU and Arsen Gamzayan, the Race Director of RFCRU assisted by officials and marshal crew from Primorye, Khabarovsk, the Jewish Autonomous Region, Sakhalin and the Caucasus region, all with combat experience in either the RFCRU events or in RFCGF in Malaysia. They have also developed online counting of results where the participants are informed in real time of how they have performed in each of the SS and overall.
SS a la RFC
With RFC format reputation of being top five toughest off-road races in the world, the seasoned organizing committee has meticulously put together carefully planned Special Stages (SS) a la RFC.
Comprising of difficult twists and turns, winching left, right and centre across undulating terrain, rocks, ruts, undulating and soggy terrain these obstacles require technical driving and recovery skills during the 4 days of high adrenaline from 12 to 15 August.
Skills Not Speed
From the start, all three categories from R1 (prototype), R2 (modified production) and R3 (Standard) blazed through the SS fast and furious but, at the same time, very careful not to make errors. But, of course, they cant avoid mechanical breakdowns if they pushed too hard at the wrong timing or make tactical errors of judgment.
At the end of the day, they all know that in the RFC race, its not about how fast but how skilled they are to overcome the tricky SS. Thats where the co-driver comes in handy whenever their 4x4 machine is stuck in the obstacles, thus, teamwork is so important.
R1 the Stars of the Race
The most watched teams in the race are the R1 (prototype), the stars of the event where the most hottest action comes from. The winners of R1 also command attention by spectators as they are also the ones to qualify for RFCGF event in Malaysia at the end of November.
Consistency in Racing Pays Off for Team 105
Experience combined with skills and good coordination between drivers and co-drivers eventually pitted the two champions in the race to be Numero Uno at RFC Tiger Trail 2021.
However, the consistency of Team 105 racing in various RFC races both in Russia and also in RFCGF in Malaysia has also helped Valery and Andrey to race ahead of Roman and Mikhail to become the Top Gun of RFCRU 2021 season.
Team 104, on the other hand, has been missing in action in many RFCRU events and also in RFCGF in Malaysia since 2019. However, in the true spirit of champions, they congratulated each other for a good fight to the finish line here at Bolshoy Kamen.
Tallest 4x4 Racer
Another interesting feature here is catching up with the tallest 4x4 competitor team. Normally you would think that basketball and 4x4 are poles apart. Yes, you are right there, of course.
So, when you are face with a towering figure of a professional basketball player in the likes of Dannill Soloviev, who stands at 212 cm, you will be looking up to talk to him!
Joining RFCRU since 2016 racing in his Suzuki Jimny in R2 category, he has been a consistent competitor every year. Even though he is not in the Top 3 ranking but hes already a winner with a record for being the tallest. He and co-driver Roman Aynutdinov finished in 6th position here, not bad at all.
In summary, a hot summer with hot 4x4 racing in a famed region of RFCRU and when its time for RFC Grand Final in Malaysia again, do watch out for the Russian teams, reputedly among the best 4x4 teams in the world.
