THE TOUGH GETS GOING AT THE ITALIAN JOB.
(RFC South Europe (RFCSE) lives up to its reputation again with a Malaysia in Italy edition of the Rainforest Challenge; that means TOUGH racing conditions assured)
Theres a saying that in Spring even the grouchiest person will be happy in Italy. For the twenty seven racing teams assembled at the end of May for the 6th edition of RFC South Europe (RFCSE); well, they got both: being happy and thrilled for getting into the thick of 4x4 battles a la Rainforest Challenge divided into 14 Special Stages (SS) worthy of the reputation of RFCs worlds top five toughest offroad races.
The heavy downpours prior to the event, just like the tropical monsoon from Asia also contributed to make RFCSE 2021 a real live simulation as if they were teleported into Malaysia!
For the bravest of these 4x4 land daredevils in R1 (prototype) and R2 (modified production) categories, they came fully prepared in mind, body and machines to face the odds and left with pride in their hearts for successfully completing yet another exciting RFC race in Italy.
The undulating grounds and tracks around Corno di Rosazzo, Udine were carefully scouted and SS prepared by Patrick Silvestri and his FLS 4x4 organizing team after months of tireless behind the scenes work. Patrick himself should know very well how tough the conditions in the jungle are like, from his real live experience and escape from the monsoon in the Rainforest Challenge of Malaysia.
Right from the word Go at the Prologue to the starting line of Stage I; it was tough going all the way along a long route of ascents and descents made worse by the torrential downpour of rain, just like a difficult transport stage in the jungle! Flashback to real time, we are not in Malaysia but in Italy!
That was a harbinger of difficult technical Special Stages (SS) to come during the 4 days of punishment for man and machines. They had to use their wits for strategy, willpower, tactics to overcome the obstacles of the SS and good support crew get their battered 4x4 machines up and running again and again, when faced with mechanical problems.
A perfect race, said Sergio Moccia, the co-driver of Team S.R.M 4x4 in a Jeept TJ 1980 from Rome, a seasoned off-road extreme racing team. From the start to finish, it was spectacular with difficult twists and turns at every sections including the night SS, which left us and many others, totally exhausted mentally and physically. Reaching the finish line is total satisfaction, added Alessandro Guidoni (driver). They ended the race as Champion of RFCSE 2021 (R1 category).
Last years champion of Red Team Simone Cognini Bumba and Dario Lacchio Duracell faced multiple damages on their Disco 300tdi, but they still managed to finish second spot in R1, while Fenix Racing Team performed well to secure third place.
Similar comments were shared by the rest of the competing teams. Some did better with less damages and penalties while others suffered more damages and penalties but overall everyone had a good time to test themselves to their limit and beyond.
Only from such extreme tests can one say: when the going gets tough, the tough gets going, smiled the affable Simone who has already secured his place for RFC Grand Final (RFCGF) in Malaysia since 2020 & also for 2021 for Red Team HM. So, when RFCGF takes off again either this year or next, expect red hot passion action from Red Team Italy.
For the R2 (Modified Production) category racers, they can also proudly stand tall for finishing the SS in true fighting spirit of RFC 4x4 warriors.
Now what did we say about Springtime in Italy? Its indeed a feel good season, not only the weather and Italian charms, but also in 4x4 motorsport of the RFC kind!
For RFCSE org (FLS4x4) it was also satisfying for completing the 6th edition of Rainforest Challenge in Italy. A credit to all our staff and marshals for their passion, commitment and doing their best under pressure of the race, said Patrick Silvestri (Head of RFCSE). Next edition will see even more improvement on verifying the stages in real time on recovery and penalties, he added.
Despite the restrictions during the ongoing pandemic period in Italy, a big salute and appreciation to the Municipal administrations and all authorities at Corno di Rosazzo, Udine, members of the media (including MSSPORT via SKY CHANNEL 229) and the following organizations for their sponsorship in making RFCSE 2021 possible.
